LEED v4 Deadline Fast Approaching: What You Need To Know

The clock is ticking!
Most LEED version 4 and 4.1 registrations will close on June 30, 2026. After this date, new projects will be required to pursue certification under the updated version 5 system.

LEED v5 raises the bar
Version 5 places greater emphasis on operational and embodied carbon, electrification, climate resilience, and human health. While it’s certainly more rigorous, LEED v5 remains achievable and would position a project with a more future-focused sustainability approach and strong market leader differentiation.

It’s not too late
That said, registering under version 4 before July 1 offers important advantages. With greater familiarity, v4 provides more flexibility, a more streamlined and cost-effective path, and often higher certification outcomes. Importantly, projects registered under v4 always have the option to upgrade to v5 at no cost if there is a strategic reason to do so.

Locking in under LEEDv4 is simple
Registering is all that is needed to lock in under version 4 and involves only basic project information and a $1,350 registration fee. Projects registered under v4 will have until June 30, 2032 to submit their preliminary LEED application before version 4 is fully sunset.
