The Chase Dining Hall at Wheaton College in Norton, MA has achieved LEED NC v2009 Silver certification. The 18,400 SF dining facility opened its doors last year, providing students with a revamped dining hall that offers dining, event and late-night service on campus, and uses approximately 18% less energy than typical dining halls.
The project called for an interior gut renovation of the 60-year old building. The new design by Prellwitz Chilinski Associates opens ups the floor plan, and incorporates new glazing, new mechanical systems, a new roof, high-efficiency LED lighting, efficient and low-flow plumbing fixtures as well as low-VOC products. Over 95% of the demolition waste was diverted from landfills and recycled. The new facility now boasts a water-use reduction of over 39%.
