Net Zero Energy / Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Experience

The goal of achieving net zero energy is challenging for any project.

The Green Engineer has completed several net zero buildings, including the Zero Net Energy Walden Pond Visitors Center in Concord, MA, and the Zero Net “Ready” Nelson Place Elementary School in Worcester, MA. In addition, firm Founder and Principal, Christopher Schaffner, PE, LEED Fellow, served as a member of Governor Deval Patrick's Zero Net Energy Building Task Force, and is quite familiar with the Commonwealth's efforts toward zero net buildings.

Our approach to net zero projects encompasses five basic steps:

  1. Reduce Demand

  2. Harvest Site Energy

  3. Maximize Efficiency

  4. Efficient Operations and Maintenance

  5. Renewable Energy
