Albany Medical Center: New Patient Tower

Albany, NY

In an effort to continue an increase in capacity and provide state-of-the-art facilities to patients, the new six-story Patient Tower located on the Albany Medical Center campus was constructed adjacent to the Surgical Pavilion on New Scotland Ave. in Albany, NY.

The complex includes a new neonatal intensive care unit, 20 new operating rooms, recovery rooms, and general medical and surgical beds, all of which have been designed specifically as single-occupancy spaces.

The project was designed with energy efficiency in mind; utilizing a high-efficiency mechanical system, aggressive design of insulation and glazing, and a highly efficient lighting design Albany Medical Center was able to demonstrate substantial energy savings to meet local energy and stretch codes.

Green Cleaning and Comprehensive Waste Reduction Policies were developed for the operations side of the project, ensuring a high-quality indoor environment and minimal impact in regards to waste generated by the project.

For the new Patient Tower, The Green Engineer:

  • Facilitated and sustained early sustainable design goals, analysis, and implementation of strategies to meet established targets;
  • Provided full service coordination and management of the LEED certification process;
  • Energy modeling services to help produce an energy-cost savings of 24% over a baseline model.
